Day 57

Day 57 Fitzroy Crossing

As you will see when you start reading this post, today was a slow news day. We had every intention

of going out to Giekey Gorge and doing a tour but Maureen woke up with a bit of a headache, we think she did not drink enough water yesterday and she dehydrates easily. With this in mind, we decided to have a quiet day in camp. I had a few little jobs to do in the van like fix a chair I had broken – it is one of the bench ends that I had pushed off and it is the brace for the back of the seat so everytime I got up I was pushing the back off, so I got the screws out and both were broken and it looks like it is not the first time it has done this. With screws in hand, I drove into town to the hardware shop and wandered around there for a while. It is always dangerous to let me loose in a mens candy shop and I had a few things picked

out to do some very obscure jobs like an electric spit for $120 that I was sure we needed but logic kicked in when I saw wheels that would fit the Beast, but they were only 300 mm where as she already had 330mm wheels and I am sure she would have seen it as a down grade so I left those too. I found my 60mm screws and headed to the petrol station. Fuel here is about $2 a litre and gas was $1.15 so I filled up Trude on gas and headed back to Girt and Maureen.

The day was heating up and eventually got to 40 degrees so Maureen had done a load of washing and then settled down to relax in the air conditioning. I must admit I was a little sceptical about our air con as to if it would work and how

efficient it would be but it has performed above expectations. It cools the van off perfectly and in fact last night we had to turn it down and then off when we went to bed. So I fixed the seat and then we settled down to a quiet day of rest and relaxation. I think we both appreciated the day off from doing things. We pottered around all afternoon and had a nap before we headed up to the front area to book another day, have a coffee and a biscuit and then wander off to the pool for a swim. At the pool we spoke to a few people
Safari Tent

who had arrived on a huge tourist bus and they were at the end of their trip as they finished in Broome. There was also a couple who had Winnebago with a car on a trailer who were heading south and we swapped advice on places to visit, getting to be quite a sage now on trip advice.

Birds nests
On the way back from the pool just after sunset, we went under the accommodation units here and up on the support beams are these bird nests. They look like barn swallows but they make enclosed nests with tubular entrances. We took a picture so I hope you can make them out, also on the way
Small tour bus
back there were a group of small kangaroos, it is a little dark to make out clearly but they are obviously Euros or some similar small roo.

Back at Girt we went to the campers kitchen to get our food and a big box of ice for our drinks and then came back to cook and call our folks to make sure they had not blown away in the storms in Mandurah. All are

well and happy and so are the dog and cats. As I said, slow news day today but tomorrow we head off exploring the gorges and the touristy bits of Fitzroy Crossing and maybe we will find out what keeps it going.

We heard some news yesterday that was a bit disappointing, our third son, the one from another mother and father, Michael Crook has got a job in New Zealand (that is not the disappointing part, that is great and exciting news, except he will be in New Zealand, a whole other country, you can't drive there!) but Karen is going over to help him settle in, as expected. The disappointing news is that it is in January when we usually go to Busselton. we are not sure when she will get there but we still expect to see Rob there, get the hint Rob, i don't get much more subtle than this, we await further developments.
