Day 105

Day 105 Ayres Rock -

Remembrance Day

Sorry about the lateness of yesterday’s post, we had some network problems. By the time we got back from watching the sun go down and finding our way home after a long days drive and then cooking

tea, I was too tired to turn it on, that was the problem. The campground here is great. I would hate to see it in full season but it is nice now. The showers are good and the people are spread out that you don’t feel crowded. The temperature is in the low 30’s so it is perfect weather for camping. Last night it got so cold that Maureen had to put on a jumper to go to the toilet. We have decided to have a quiet day today. I am a bit tired and need a sleep to catch up a bit and the weather is so nice we have been lulled into a peaceful mood.

We sat around until just after 2 when Maureen wanted to go to town. We rode into the settlement and had lunch at the local academy café and it was delicious, just a sandwich, but a good one. Maureen wandered off to the shops and I sat and watched a free workshop on aboriginal dancing. They run these free workshops for the tourists on the grass near the shopping centre. They are well run and the people have a ball and the dancers seem to enjoy it as well. I suppose it is a little disappointing that the dancers come from SA but at least they are original. At the end of the workshop they put on a performance and then they get the audience involved and they do the stuff they did in the workshop. I

spoke with one of the performers who loved it all. He did dance back in Adelaide, but prefers it here.

From there we returned to Girt and started to prepare for tonight. We planned to go out to the rock and watch the sun go down from the sunrise position. As we would be home late we wanted to have tea ready. One option was to take it with us, but that sounded too messy. I made a Chicken Thai Green Curry, well that is to say Maureen prepped all the vegies and I combined and cooked it to within an inch of perfection. This done and left ready, we headed off. As we got near the Sunset viewing position a dingo ran across the road in front of us. Someone had said that the sunrise viewing position was better than the sunset position and as we wanted to find the spot anyway as we want to go there tomorrow for sunrise (5am!!!) we thought we would try it tonight. Well I don’t know about being better, but it is different. The viewing platform was some way off so Maureen went out and scouted for us. We are taking the Beast tomorrow and want to see how far we can get around it.

After the sun went down, we headed back to Girt for our tea that was as tasty as we had anticipated. Tomorrow we will be getting up about 4am to go see the sunrise. Maureen is going to take some eggs and we will have breakfast out there and then go walking.
