Day 40 80 Mile Beach

Hooning near the water |
I only did 1 active thing today and I think I should have
given it a miss. Maureen was up early as

usual and then started on the washing.
The temperature was in the mid to high 30’s today so it was perfect drying
weather, or so she tells me. The rest of the day we spent in the van doing
nothing, well not really nothing, Maureen put a film on and slept through it,
then I helped the Fremantle Dockers win against Geelong, but that was about it.
Then about 4:30 we decided we had better do something so I would have something
to write about, so we went down to the beach.
Maureen was a bit slow getting down there so I am blaming
her entirely for what happened. The tide was out so I went out into the bay to
see how far I could go. The ground is fairly firm, but is made up of silt so if
you stop, the

wheels sink in a bit. So there I was being very sensible and
driving out in about 1cm of water when I saw Maureen

n coming out. Then I swooped
up near her and was doing loops around her whilst she was taking pictures. Now if
she had ben there earlier, she would have said mind the water I being a
sensible person, I would have listened to her, but she was not there and did
not say it, so it is her fault – The Beast came to a stop. No power, just beeps
at me and nothing. I tried talking sweetly to it, but that did not work so I checked
what I could to see if anything was either loose or obviously wet. Well I gave
up on the wet bit as it was all covered in silt and nothing looked unplugged.
I called in the pit crew and Maureen pushed the Beast up
onto the dry sand whilst I wandered along behind contemplating what I could do
with it, turn it into a BBQ or an elaborate hat rack. Back on dry land I stripped
her down, looked seriously at it, kicked the tyres, told Maureen some guff that
sounded like I knew what I was talking about when I had no idea at all. She was
going nowhere. The last car on the beach came by and offered a lift. I got in and
the lady in the car asked if it had gone flat, the driver immediately said “no,
he was doing doughnuts in the water” I had to admit that he was right!
Back at Girt I grabbed Trude and loaded up the ramps and
headed back to the beach. There Maureen had abandoned the Beast and wandered
off too enjoy the views and it was a sad picture indeed. Ramps out, the Beast
was dragged into Trude with Maureen’s help. I then sat and watched the sun go
down. Once that was done, we drove off the beach and went back to camp, where I
am now writing this up. I am not sure if this will be posted tonight or not as
the internet is a bit hit and miss. I am hoping that the engine or part that is
wet dries out tomorrow. If not I will wash her all off and let her dry off
again.
