Day 59

Sun rise Fiztroy Crossing - Hazy

Day 59 Halls Creek

Local looking for his home
The day started hot at Fitzroy Crossing so we decided to head off early. Maureen had walked around the camp to look at the remains of the bush after our fire yesterday. There were some pretty sad looking roos trying to figure out what happened to all the grass. We packed up and hit the road at 8:30. The country again has changed. It is like someone said it is time to redo the garden. Gone are the Boabs, not one to be seen.

The country went to mallee scrub and then was burnt out for a while then we hit some open country with bigger eucalypts with white bark. The country also became hillier and we stopped off at a pit stop and got some lovely pictures from on top of the hill. The day was very hot 40 plus and we stopped at Mary Pool for lunch. This had been recommended as an overnight stop and ordinarily it would have been nice but there was no water and not that much shade so we had lunch and moved on.

We arrived in Halls Creek about 1 and booked into the caravan park. We setup in the heat and just as we started to put out the awning a big willy-willy came through and just about took us

away. We really had tp struggle to keep the awning out. We had not fully extended it before we were hit and that was a saving grace but it was close. We very quickly adjourned to the pool to discuss the

next steps. We decided on a quick drive around town and get some bits and bobs and re-gas Trude. Well we got round town and Maureen went into Halls Creek District Scholl as we had heard that a friend from Hockey – Darryl Dedman was up here working. Maureen was let into the school, all the gates are locked, and Darryl was there. We are catching up with him tonight for tea.

and learnt about the school. If there are any teachers out there who are looking for a change to a lovely part of the state, get onto him here at the school, they are after primary and secondary teachers. We went down to fuel up old Trude but unfortunately the gas was out of order so we will have to make do with petrol for the next few days until we get to Warman.

That was about the day, not all that exciting or eventful but very satisfying having travelled 270kms today. Our expectations are to drive out to Wolf Creek Crater, depending on the track and then move on to Kununurra on Saturday.
