Day 52 Broome
Well Maureen had a quiet day today whilst I was flat out,
well I should elaborate, I mean I was flat out on the bed. I was a little tired
today, woke up that way, so whilst Maureen was out and about on

her Hog ( her
Bike), I stayed in bed. She eventually returned from her travels and we sat
around and discussed options. We had booked in for a hovercraft ride this
afternoon at 2:30 so we had a few hours to kill. The plan was to get some stuff
for lunch an find a park to eat whilst ate until it was time for our ride. As
we were getting ready, Maureen said her tooth was sore and tried to show me
where it was – flash backs of the crocodile park! She asked if she should have
it looked at before we go, like I would know. I agreed that it might be worth a
look at before we head off in case it was a bit more to it than a

little sore.
There was a dentist’s number at the park office so she gave them a call and
booked in for tomorrow morning at 8:15am, so we will be here for another day,
so we will leave on Saturday now.
Off we went and got some stuff from woollies for lunch. We
drove to Roebuck Bay park and enjoyed some time there overlooking the bay. In
early 1942 there were a dozen flying boats anchored in the bay with refugees
from Indonesia when the Japanese attacked and sank them. No one really

knows
how many died as the whole place was in chaos and no one was keeping records.
The bay is beautiful and it is hard to imagine such a thing happening there.
We went around to the hovercraft place and waited for our
tour. A group of school kids were there as they were having a tour, turns out
they are from Derby and we had a quick chat to them. The hovercraft returned
and they all went on their way and our tour was assembling when bad news came –
engine problems

they had to cancel our tour but we have rescheduled for Friday,
same time, just as well Maureen’s tooth hurt!
Whilst we were waiting to hear our tour being cancelled I
rang my second cousin, I think (my mum’s cousin’s daughter) anyway Ann was up
here in town and we finally were able to touch base with her and we are going
to have coffee Saturday morning before we leave. Doug rang and we are catching up for coffee
later tonight. When Ann made our date, she asked if I knew where Town Beach
Café was and I said, yeah no probs, like I am a local now, so I thought I had

better find this place. I was pretty sure I had seen a sign saying town beach
when we had lunch and Maureen said she had seen a shopping centre not far so
back we went and sure enough found Town Beach. It is also where you go to see
Stairway to the Moon _ moons reflection on the sand at low tide. This
apparently happens on Friday night ( no prize for guessing where we will be
tomorrow ) but someone got the promotional brochures wrong as they had it down
as tonight and arranged some markets. The stairway may not be happening, but
the markets were.

We sat around and
watched them set up and it was whilst this was happening that I suddenly got
old, that’s right old. There were a group of locals sitting off to one side and
were generous enough to have their stereo in their car cranked right up so
everyone within a 50km radius could share in their good taste in music! I must
admit I did not mind the choice of music but I suddenly disliked that I had no
choice if I wanted to listen to it and apart from being very loud, it was a
crappy stereo! So I sat there and grizzled to Maureen about it and how unfair it
was that I could not just sit in the park and enjoy the serenity and that
really they were being very inconsiderate and, and, and when I looked round
because she had

stopped agreeing with me, she had gone! Fortunately she
returned with an icecream and I got young again.
Right now I am
sitting having a cold drink and looking at ice machines. We do not have a very
big freezer or an engles so ice is a rarity that I like, ice cold drinks at the
end of the day, so we thought if there was a cheap ice maker that was small
enough to fit in the van, we would get one. I have a bid in on one now and I am
waiting to see if I am successful and have it mailed to Darwin for me. Cannot
wait, clink the old ice around….
