Day 63 Kununurra
We are now sitting next to Lake Argyle in a lovely caravan
park with an infinity pool that overlooks the lake, well it is an infinity pool
if you squat down in the water and don’t go close to the edge. The

was uneventful but reasonably quick. Wyndham has a few things to see here such
as the Big Croc and at our park there are 2 more. Fuzzy the donkey we mentioned
before is a scuffy arsed donkey if ever I saw one. It has this long hair that
needs a good comb. Fuzzy was saved as a baby when they went through and shot
all the wild donkeys on Flora Station, some 10,000 were culled. He has wandered
the streets here ever since and still does today where he was in the campers
kitchen scrounging food.

The other site is the Big Boab. It is huge and is again in
the park. We could have parked next to it when we came in but it was a choice
between shade and next to the pool and toilets or out in the sun next to the
boab. It was a close call, but we chose the shade. The tree is a bit of a
tourist attraction and some people come through just to look at it. It is about
the size of the Police Boab but not as scarred up as the others where people
seem to have this urge to carve their names in the bark like we really care
they were there! A

pet hate of mine is this craving to carve into trees.
We packed up our goods and chattels into our rather dirty
looking vehicles. Girt looks like she was in the sea rather than by it. The
drive into Parry Creek Caravan Park not only saw water over the top of Trude,
but also over the top of Girt and the red muddy water can be seen on the
outside. It had gone over so much mud that when we went to wind one of the legs
up, there was this brick of mud in there! We have promised her a bath at the
next stop. Trude on the other hand had been reasonably clean after being in the
rain but had gotten rather dirty and dusty yesterday and was looking decidedly

dusty today. Both are on a promise of cleaner days soon.
We drove to Kununurra through some lovely country. There
were hills and ranges all the time, some in the distance and others up close.
The countryside here is beautiful and ever changing. We came over the spillway
into Kununurra. We had not really decided where we were going to stop tonight.
Maureen said we would go into Kununurra and have a look around before going out
to Lake Argyle. I took that to mean we were

going to a park in Kununurra, just
not sure which one. Maureen meant we would drive through town and see what was
there and then continue on to Lake Argyle. Driving through an unknown town with
2 ½ tonnes on the back was not what I call an ideal touring setup. I stopped at
the Tourist Centre and Maureen wandered in to see what we could find. We then
filled up Trude with gas and headed off to Lake

Argyle. We intend to return to Kununurra
on another day and do a touristy day. In the carpark of the shops were these
two monstrous off road trucks/campers. They are registered in Germany and they
had 4 Germans in them. We stopped and chatted to them and the story is that
there are 26 of the driving around the world and they have done Europe, middle
east, Iran, Afghanistan and East Timor before coming here. They have split up
and are driving around Australia and most are meeting up in Perth to go on to

America. One of these was going to New Zealand first. The trucks are huge and
were made by this ladies company and they were spending a few years driving
round and trying them out. They were most impressive.
The road out to Lake Argyle is lovely and offers scenic view
after scenic view. We arrived at Lake Argyle Caravan Park and the lovely people
here directed us to our spot under some lovely shady trees. We setup camp and
then wandered over to the pool for a cool off.

There was a small mob of Red
Tailed Black Cockatoos there that kept us entertained as they shredded the
branches of some poor little shrub. The views are again spectacular, a word I
think I am going to wear out. If you were a painter, you would not know where
to start. You see one angle or scene and go wow, you go a bit further and
again, wow another scene and so it goes.
After a swim I retired to Girt for a nanny nap and we are

through before going back for
another swim. Tomorrow Maureen is looking at going on one of the walk trails to
see what they are like. She will head off early to beat the heat.
OMG I was just about to post this page when I realised our
hotspot is not picking up any signal, we are off the air. We may have to go
into Kununurra sooner so we can get some coverage.
