Day 69

Day 69 – Timber Creek

We got up early today and started packing up. Our day of rest saw us a little disorganised than

normal. We had washing to collect and sort, washing up to do, caravan to pack and car to load up, but we were done by 8:30 so we went to the pool. Barry was up and about after his turn yesterday so all was well. We splashed around and chatted to others until about 10 when we dragged ourselves out and showered and got ready to hit the road. Our new friends were also leaving today and we swapped addresses for when we get

back and then hit the road. They were just in front of us and as we hit the border we both pulled over and did the photo at the sign bit – real tourists. We hit the road and left them to sort out little ones and food and stuff. We lost one and a half hours at the border so it has been an odd day. We pulled into Timber Creek at 1:30 our time to be told it was actually 3 in the

At the border at last
afternoon and that the lady would be feeding the crocs at 5. So back to Girt, setup, get the food out and have lunch/afternoon tea and settle down to wait for 5.

We got to the river area at 5 but no one was there. We looked at the river and above it the trees were full of fruit bats. We stayed for a while and Maureen said she would go and see if anyone was coming. When she left, I

banged the railing with my walking stick whilst I was looking at the bats and looked down and there was this freshwater croc, about 3m long just lying there. Maureen returned and it turns out that the usual person was away on holiday and another one came down. He was a pommy backpacker who had been there a week. He soon had half a dozen well fed crocs around and proceeded to feed them. After that we went out in Trude for a drive. We went to Policemans Lookout which was a beautiful parking spot overlooking the Victoria River. we then went out to Bradshaws Bridge which is closed as

the army have a live firing range there but you can walk over it. On the way back we went out to another lookout on the escarpment where they had a memorial to those during the war that monitored enemy activity in this area, yet again, more going on than what we were lead to believe.
