Day 78

Day 78 Darwin
Well we made it to Darwin. We got up and had breakfast in Kakadu and had visitors from next door.
Breackfast with Emma

Maureen, Tracy, Steve, Emma and Adam
Last night we spent the evening with our camp friends Tracy and Steve and over a few glasses of grape juice we discussed what the other had done. We suggested that they go to the Yellow Waters Tour as it might keep the kids more entertained and they would see crocs and birds galore. They suggested a few tours in Darwin such as Crocodilus as crowds were down and to stay at a station on the way down to Alice Springs that they had stayed at. Adam and

Emma, who are 4, had gone to bed earlier but were over first thing in the morning. Emma is a real live wire and after standing there talking for a while she shot off and brought her chair over. She and I had breakfast together – tea and toast. Maureen made the toast and I buttered it for us and we sipped our tea and discussed things she had done at the station stay – riding horses, driving around the farm and so on. We had a great old chin wag over our cuppa. We packed up and said our goodbyes. Tracy and co are heading to Queensland for family but we hope to catch up with them in the South East or in the Barossa Valley.

We hit the road about 10 and made our way to Darwin. We went through Corroboree Billabong too   we loaded it into the car and discussed caravan parks. The big 4 was 32 km away so we ummed and arrred and then chose the Hidden Valley Resort because it was the first one we saw the sign to.
Ice anyone?

Girt and Trude at Hidden Valley
late to do the tours so we will do one from Darwin. We had intended to stay at the Big 4 park but the signs on the way in did not show what parks were where. We had not done our homework and grabbed a map, we assumed they would all be sign posted like everywhere else, how hard can it be? (seems I keep hearing this) Well we ended up in the centre of town, which was handy apart from having to drive a 4WD with a caravan through the small streets of Darwin trying not to wipe too many cars off or damage Girt too much. We found a tourist information centre there with no parking near it so I dropped Maureen off and did bog laps round the CBD until she appeared on the road side and I stopped to let her in. the benefit of the bog laps had been that I found the ANZ bank and the post office. On the lap after I picked Maureen up, I dropped her off again at the post office and did laps again until she appeared with the mail and a huge box ( I wonder what that could be?)

Well we are now sitting in our awning with my new ICE Maker!! It can punch out 12kg of ice a day. I am sitting here with a nice icey cold drink with the rain tumbling down with our first lightning show and doing my blog.
