Day 10

Day 10 Karajini

Maureen peering over the edge
Today we went to Circular Pool.
What is over the edge Circular Pool
The track runs from the back of our camp area round to the lookut. The gopher is running a little low on power so we only went to the lookout and did not try the connecting track to where we were yesterday. There was a path down to the gorge, but it was a bit steep to go down for Maureen so we went back to camp. The gorge is as beautiful as we had been told, huge great canyons dug into the most amazing ground strata

that produces all sorts of shapes and lumps. Again the pool is artesian fed and offers a lovely little swimming pool.
3 Way Gorge Lookout

After a sumptuous lunch of Prawn salad, we poke to a lovely lady by the name of Anne who is a walker. We met her at Newman on the mine tour and here she is walking the trails. She is most energetic and I think here talking about doing to trecks she has got Maureen enthused and she decided she wanted to walk the gorge from Fortescue falls to Circular Pool, along the gorge bottom. I walked her over to the Fortescue Falls lookout and saw her off. I went back to camp to try and work out what went wrong with the winch in the car and find a screw for the Gopher basket
Back on track
The gorge edge
as one has gone missing – exciting stuff! The winch I think has blown something inside as when I connect up the power direct instead of via the controls, it blows the circuit breaker, sounds like a new winch, bugger. Fixed the gopher basket, at least one success, even if it was just a screw!

It is our last day here before we move on to Tom Price but it has just been magic. 3 days off grid has been great, we have done some sightseeing and just sat around appreciating to land around us, sunrises (well at least for Maureen) and Sunsets
Across the stream
and the magic vistas in between. The wild life has been great and entertaining such as the pidgeons who
Fortescue Falls
patrol our area in packs and come right up to you checking for crumbs to the smart little crow who spotted a bug nest in the tree and took it away to eat right next to us.

The experience has shown that we can survive away from the power except for the gopher,

we did not use the generator to power it, but we could have had the winch worked, I would have loaded it up and taken a drive for a few hours to run the generator, but never mind, we did survive. Maureen planned perfectly for food and has become a huge

water miser, watch out kids when we get home!

WOW WOW WOW A THOUSAND TIMEs WOW is what I would like to say about Karajini. The scenery, the gorges the peace and quiet it all is amazing although I did mss my walking buddy Karen .
This morning I decide  I would go down the “steps” at  Three way look out but decided going down carrying a water bottle in one hand and a camera in the other wasn’t

a smart thing to do. Back to camp.
Like stacks of slate
After lunch etc started off again but went down at Fortesce waterfall. The hardest part was getting down to ground level but went from rock to rock and got there.

The path
The place is amazing so much to see. Took heaps of photos again. Followed the path  back to Three Way Lookout and it was  a wonderful hike with great sceney and some  interesting challenges along the pathway. Climbing along rocks and over stepping stones etc but well worth it.I just wish I had more time to do it in and could have stopped more often to enjoy the view for longer.
Maureen in gorge

The climb out at Three Way View was all up and looking up from the bottom of the gorge and thinking I just have to get up there. It was a lot easier than I was expecting it to be. Then I walked back along the Gorge Rim track. Again great views and scenery, Back to the camp site.   No Drew. Car gone. So off On my bike to find Drew who was waiting in the car park for me and wasn’t going to panic until 6.So at 5:30 we both headed back to the caravan. Great day. Love Karajini. After all that hiking I should sleep well tonight!!!!!!!
