Day 24 Giralia Station

Well maybe not |
We left Coral Bay with the intention of going to Bullara
Station for a night stop over but the best laid plans did not go as planned. We
got up at the crack of dawn, well 8 ‘ish for me, and packed up. Whilst we were
doing so, one of the feathered locals decided we need a site inspection and got
his picture taken for his efforts. Maureen is sure it is the same Spinifex
Pigeon that has followed us from Karijini!
After finding out

that all the Yardy Creek camp grounds were booked out
when we were in Exmouth, we went over our plans for the next few days – Bullara
overnight, then Onslow over night then 3 nights at Dampier followed by 3 nights
at Millstream and back to Point Sampson. We looked at our schedule and decided
we would book it all, that way no disappointments. We rang all the camp sites
and booked in at Onslow, Dampier and

Point Sampson and rang the rangers for
Millstream and were told we could not book there but there were plenty of sites
– no worries mate! We shall see.
We hit the road at 10:30 after a stop off at the bakery for
a loaf of bread and a coffee. When we were parking next to the

which is a 3 story building, we spied a pair of young hawks in a nest in the
roof eaves. Anyhow, of to Bullara only about 60 odd Kms away, get to the gate
and “sorry, closed for Muster” so much for our plans. We drove another 35kms
down the road and pulled into Giralia Station. It is a lovely little station
that allows travellers into the farm house

area and stay there. The facilities
are basic but adequate. There is power for about 3 hours from 6 – 9, maybe more
but no guarantee. They have a few walks laid out which are really just service
tracks for the farm, but more than adequate to see the flowers and the views.
We pulled up in our allocated spot and set up camp – takes
about 10 minutes now to pull up, unhitch, pop the top and have the chairs out

sitting, talk about a well oiled team! We had lunch under a nearby tree and
mulled over the options. The consensus was to enjoy the peace and quiet and the
view, then unload the Beast and Mate and do the 5km Kangaroo walk path. And
that is what we did. Off we went down the track, Maureen stopping every 10
metres taking pictures and me blazing the trail on the Beast. Got to the end of
the walk which was a windmill that once used to pump water some distance as
attested to by some old water pipes, but since a fire came

through and melted
the poly pipe, just 20m away and it has created a little oasis in the bush with
a water hole. Maureen went hill climbing and then it was back to Girt and
Trude.

Optional Walks |
As we were leaving for our walk another Van pulled in near
ours and used the tree we were having lunch under, that made about 6 groups.
After we got back, Maureen met the lady of the Van and asked if she would like
to have drinks with us and she said Yes. Helen & Allen are from Bendigo and
are on their way back home.
 |
Accommodation |
They have travelled a few times round the top end
and are far more adventurous than us! They are on their way into Exmouth so we
suggested a few spots for them. It was a nice way to finish off the day before
we had tea, had a shower and retired to Girt for the evening and to do the
blog. So, Onslow tomorrow.
