Day 4

Day 4
Sunrise at Lake Nallan
Again, the regular travellers are making us look positively slack. We got up at 8:00 (well I got up at 8, Maureen got up at 6 to watch the sunrise and then went back to bed) and our neighbours had already gone! We left Lake Nallan (not sure about the spelling, seen it spelt both ways) about 10 for a slow drive into Meekatharra, mate.

Me at Meekatharra
The town is really quite nice. It is nowhere near as dusty as the news reports always show and there were no drunks lying about in the street either!

We had lunch there at a lovely little park near the tourist info board and filled up our water tank. There was phone connection for our hotspot so we checked in with the family and did some e-mailing, talk about addicted to technology, I thought kids were bad.

We fuelled up and dropped some letters off at the post office (got involved with a rather normal family fall out and discussion about the family’s dirty laundry and what each other thought about each other, just that it was conducted across the street and down the corner between members) and we wandered down the road towards Newman about 1:30.

Our van at Gascoyne - just found out how to add captions
We decided that Newman would be too far so consulted the bible – Camping 6, and reviewed the options and decided on Southern Gascoyne area. We stumbled across the perfect site after pulling into a parking bay as we thought we had missed the turn off and needed to go back. The parking bay had tracks running off that lead down to the river. There are just 3 of us here and about 150m apart.
Old Well at the Parking area and old stock water trough
Set up camp, had a cup of tea and enjoyed the views and the peace and quiet. Cooked tea and just came in to type this up when I tried the hotspot and low and behold we have phone connection! We are 130 kms from anywhere and I am not exaggerating, and full strength 3G network, the wonders of modern technology!!

Well the plan for tomorrow is to drive to Newman and stay a couple of days to restock food and do a bit of Laundry.
