Day 2

Day 2. We start the day at a leisurely pace after a good night sleep. York Caravan Park was excellent and there were only 4 other van there so not so squeezy. Easy drive through bays, level ground and good toilets made it a highly recommendable place. We let the early birds rush off at sunrise (8:30) and we had a long chat with the owners and set off at 10:30. I must say hre, do not pinch the toilet rolls from the caravan park. I was sitting contemplating life when I noticed that each roll had a stamp on the end with York Caravan Park on it, every one of them. Turns out people pinch them and have been caught and fined up to $1200!!
Set out from York and drove through to Northam, refreshed my drug stores and headed true north at last. The countryside is spectacular with farms as far as the eye can see, which with all the hills, is not too far. We left the ranges behind and kept driving through Dallwalinu. The country there is a lot flatter and the farms seem much bigger.
Road trains are constant with as much stuff coming south as going north. Some projects must be closing down a there are a lot off Dongers coming south as well as Water trucks of all things. New trucks are heading north and they close both lanes to get them through.
We drove until we got to a listed campsite with a toilet (drop Toilet that is) and went passed a couple of other sites. We were a bit concerned about if we could get in to our one as these other sites already had groups of caravans already set up and these were just pulloffs from the road.

We got to our site at 4:30 and there was no one, not a sole. We had this huge bitumen area all to ourselves. Toilet was there old fire places and just us. We picked a spot and setup and Maureen decided that she needed some exercise so she ran around the car park a few times and then walked it a few more, given it was about 200m long and 40 m wide, not a bad effort, I managed it once and only stumbled once!
Just as the sun went down a road train pulled in with a wide load, they cannot travel at night. They went up to the far end and setup camp. That was it until much later in the when another caravan pulled in and setup way down the other end. As we were eating tea, another road train pulled in, checked his lights and load and left. That was it until after 9:30. During the night 2 other road trains pulled in and stayed the night and a couple of others dropped in to check loads and go. Another caravan also pulled in sometime.
The place might be called Mount Gibson but some mining company is fast changing it to Gibson Pit. From our spot we could see the excavation site and watch the trucks take it down. Seems sad to look at this hill and see a big chunk missing.
Tried out the shower, definitely a one person shower this one! That said it worked perfectly an the hot water system kept up easily. Went to bed at 9:30.
